| Red Lentils, dry | soaked | Cup | 28 | |

| Cumin seeds(whole) | Tbsp | 12 | ||
| Fenugreek (dried) | Tbsp | 2 2/5 | ||
| Garlic (chopped) | Tbsp | 12 | ||
| Tomatoes (diced) | can | 4/5 | ||
| Onions | Chopped | cup | 12 | |
| Corriander powder | Tbsp | 3 | ||
| Mustard seeds | Tbsp | 7 | ||
| Red Chilli Flakes | Tbsp | 1 3/5 | ||
| Salt, to taste | Tbsp | 4 1/2 | ||
| Soak Lentils overnight or 4 hours. Wash, rinse and drain lentils. | ||||
| In a large soup pot heat oil on medium heat. | ||||
| Add cumin seeds, Fenugreek and mustard seeds and fry till mustard seeds pop. | ||||
| Add onions, ginger, garlic and saute till it is transcluscent. | ||||
| Add garlic, basil and salt. | ||||
| Add lentils, diced tomatoes, water, red chilli flakes. | ||||
| Add remaining spices. | ||||
| Bring to a boil and simmer till lentil is soft. | ||||
